“I will strive for greater happiness”
Hwang Young-mook, an infielder for the independent baseball team Yeoncheon Miracle, was selected by the Hanwha Eagles in the 2024 KBO Draft on September 13 at the Westin Chosun Seoul. He was selected in the fourth round, 31st overall. It is the second time a Yeoncheon Miracle player has been selected in the rookie draft, following infielder Son Ho-young, who was selected by the LG Twins in 2019.
Hwang Young-mook entered the 2024 KBO Draft as a high school and college dropout and showed off his skills at the KBO tryouts held earlier in the year. He attracted the attention of scouts from 10 KBO teams, making him a “top pick” in the draft.
Hwang Young-mook, who is the centerpiece of the Yeoncheon Miracle’s infield and batting lineup, graduated from Anyang Chunghun High School and entered Chungang University. However, he struggled in college and played in the Gyeonggi-do Independent Baseball League since 2019. Hwang Young-mook, a four-year independent leaguer who has been playing for the Yeoncheon Miracle since 2022 after playing for Seongnam City and Gwangju City, has gained attention as an infield resource with solid hitting ability and the ability to play all infield positions, including a 23-game hitting streak and a cycling hit.
He also appeared on “JTBC’s Strongest Baseball” and “KBS Youth Baseball Team: Not Out Yet,” where he made a good impression and introduced himself to the public.
Unlike other players who participated in the rookie draft, Hwang Young-mook chose to continue his career in the independent league. As a college dropout, he had to wait four years to be drafted and faced difficulties during his military career, but he overcame all of this to reach the professional stage.
In an interview shortly after his nomination, Hwang said that he was determined to “become a player worthy of going to a good team,” and that he hoped “there will be more good things in the future, and I will try to have more happiness than the hard times I have been through,” adding that he “love and thank my parents” for their support. 메이저사이트
“I would also like to thank the officials of the Yeoncheon County Government for creating a foothold for me to get to this point and for their strong support of the independent league team, Yeoncheon Miracle,” he added.
Based in Yancheon, Gyeonggi-do, the Yancheon Miracle has been performing well with the support of Yancheon County, winning the 2022 Gyeonggi-do League title and the 2023 Gyeonggi-do League regular season title.
