2021 runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece, World No. 5) advanced to the round of 16 at Roland Garros with a straight-sets victory.
Tsitsipas wrapped up the match in just over two hours, putting in a flawless performance to reach the next round.
Tsitsipas defeated Diego Schwartzman (Argentina, World No. 95) 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 in the third round of the men’s singles competition at Roland Garros Stadium’s Suzanne Lalande court in Paris, France on Tuesday (Feb. 2).
Commenting on his victory, Tsitsipas said, “It wasn’t easy playing him. In fact, it’s never easy to play him. I had to be very focused to make the right decisions, to get the flow and to be patient like a monk.”
Despite his modest answer, Tsitsipas hit six service aces and 34 winners and only conceded one break.
In the round of 16, Tsitsipas will face Sebastian Opener (Austria, World No. 118), who is on a roll after reaching the last 16 of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career with a full-set win over Fabio Fognini (Italy, World No. 130).
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz (Spain, World No. 1) also reached the last 16 with a straight-sets victory over Denis Shapovalov (Canada, World No. 32) on Philippe Chatelier, 6-1 6-4 6-2.
Alcaraz cruised through his service game, winning 73% of his first serves, while Shapovalov made 10 double faults to take the lead. 스포츠토토
Alcaraz’s next opponent will be Lorenzo Musetti (ITA, World No. 18), who defeated Alcaraz in the final of last year’s Hamburg Open on clay.
Musetti hasn’t dropped a set in his three matches at the tournament, averaging just two hours and seven minutes per match.
This will spell trouble for Alcaraz, who will be looking to win his first Roland Garros title.
